twenty twelve

Here's how it started.
Here is the revised version.
The short story is this. While filling in for an indoor soccer team I tore my ACL and MCL. I got the coolest crutches available (thanks babe) but still managed to drop my brand new iPhone in the toilet, forcing me to resort to an old flip phone we had activated in order to get said iPhone early.

If you're lucky I'll update you more when I am on post-surgery drugs. I've heard that's when the magic happens :).

All joking aside. God is so good. I have a flexible job, a loving husband, the best doctor and a new nephew to meet when I'm cleared to travel.

Let's do this.

This one's for Mom.

My mother contacted me to say, "Hey Em...I've noticed that you haven't posted on your blog in a while...what's up with that." That's mom speak for "PLEASE tell me you haven't boycotted clothes and joined a cult." Not really, but I love my mom...and I miss the creative outlet, so here you go. A little pattern mixing and some bangs I'm still trying to figure out.

Love you mom. When are you coming to visit? :)

Remember those pictures I promised like a month ago?

And then I read this, and now I know what I want to do when I grow up.

Date Night in the Crayon Graveyard

I am notorious for planning bad dates. If there's a horrible movie, I'll pick it. A picnic in the park, it will rain. Stargazing and I'll find the perfect place...on private property.  Things got so desperate in college that I sought some Google guidance. Grave rubbings with crayons?! Dress a turkey together?! Even Google wanted me to fail! All this to say, it's a miracle I'm married...and I shamelessly stole this idea from Pinterest and turned it into a fun activity for me and the guy who plans all of our dates.

Love the names of these!

Next I'd like to experiment with shaving the crayons or melting both ways on the canvas or melting in layers...so many options!

Here's how you can make your own...

You'll need:
1 canvas
1 box of crayons
Hot glue gun
Blow Dryer

Steps:
1. Glue the crayons on the canvas however you'd like. [I chose a rainbow variety with the color names showing...in the end that didn't really matter. Clint put his in more random groupings with the Crayola label facing out...there is no right way.]
2. Set your canvas up at an angle [The wax splatters, so do this somewhere you don't mine some extra wax flying around... maybe not on your carpet...unless you want new carpet...or hardwood!...:)]
3. Turn the blow dryer on and have at it. [Again, no right way. We found that high heat seems to work best and the faster the speed the more the wax tends to splatter, the slower the more it drips.]
4. Admire your work and hang it up somewhere.

I'm trying to figure out if we should spray our pieces with something to avoid transferring crayon to the wall/having unwanted melting/making our house wreak of crayon like my car does. Suggestions you art junkies?

Hope you're having a fabulous Wednesday! Sorry it's been so long. Tomorrow I have some fun shots to share from a little BFF session with my sister and first cousin once removed...or something like that...they're cute!! :D

Summer Lovin'

I love summer. The sun, the sweat....well mainly the sun. And thanks to a little family vacation I was able to spend lots of time with the lovely ball of fire.

Summer in Sleeves.

Does anyone else work in an office that has the environmental stability of a menopausal woman? Ok. I just had to get that off my chest...and make an excuse for being so covered mid-summer.

Last night Clint and I took a leisurely stroll around the rundown little mall in our area where I drooled... not over the amazing store selection but the endless photo shoot possibilities. I don't know what it is about abandoned loading docks and an empty parking lot that speaks to me, but they do...in their own little come-take-pictures language. Unfortunately Clint is not fluent in this vernacular and it's not offered in Rosetta Stone. Which means more indoor pictures. But I contend...better inside than no pictures at all. And in my defense, it's a sneaky way to introduce you to a part of our new house :).

Even though the mall had closed its Chick-fil-a (tear), Roger's Jewelers is still up and running, so we stopped in and I had my ring cleaned. Due to the outrageous amount of light reflecting off my bling I think I may make this a monthly habit.
